Drug abuse and the misuse of medicines remain among the most pressing public health concerns in Nigeria, affecting individuals, families, and communities across the country. While healthcare professionals continue to play a vital role in prevention, treatment, and advocacy, lasting change also depends on the influence of trusted community leaders who interact with people every day. Recognising this opportunity, the Wilson Erhun Foundation for Pharmacy Administration (WEFPA) successfully implemented its Drug Abuse Prevention and Safe Use of Medicines Programme for Pastors and Clergy, an initiative designed to equip faith leaders with the knowledge and practical skills needed to promote healthier communities.

The programme reflects WEFPA’s commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery through leadership development, public health education, and strategic community engagement. By empowering faith leaders with accurate, evidence-based information on drug abuse prevention and the responsible use of medicines, the Foundation sought to create a multiplier effect that extends far beyond the walls of the training programme.
